Have y’all noticed there is a National _____ Holiday just about every day of the year. National Pet Day, National Tequila Day (cough, my personal fave, cough), National Doughnut Day, the list goes on and on. It’s weird, but I approve of whoever created this because it gives me an excuse to celebrate something. And in our depressing world, we all can use a light-hearted celebration. Right?
But most importantly, it gives girls an excuse to post on Instagram. And ladies, let’s be real. We all have done it.
“Oh, here is a photo of me posing with all of my friends. It doesn’t matter if it was taken 10 years ago and we all are in swimsuits and I’m posting it in December… It’s National Bestfriend Day so I have to commemorate it!”
I love it.
So when National Ice Cream Day rolled around this year, I was already thinking of ways for me to make it into a fun outing. Should I go to Salt N’ Straw (if you haven’t heard of this glorious place, stop what you’re doing now and go) or should I make my own sundaes? The possibilities were endless.
But then I got a fabulous email from my favorite jewelry brand, Kendra Scott, asking if I wanted to host a gathering for all my friends at her store to celebrate National Ice Cream Day. The adventure would include jewels, sippin’ on champagne and lots of ice cream.
EXCUSE ME? This is what National Ice Cream Day dreams are made of!
The day of the event I spent way too long trying to find the perfect outfit and finally settled on the brightest red romper I could find. Because one, I am extra. Two, I love color. Three, blondes will always look fabulous in red. Blondes, take note. If you haven’t heard of the brand Gianni Bini, I need to you go ahead and stop what you’re doing now, Google it, and get to shopping. Almost half of my wardrobe is from this brand because it’s good quality, fits well and most importantly- IT IS AFFORDABLE. And a lot of his stuff includes patterns and color, which is everything I adore and everything Alex despises and rolls her eyes at. Ah, sisters.
Alex and I arrived to Kendra Scott and were immediately greeted by the most precious employees who said the magic words, “pick out whatever you want.” I swear we both looked at each other like we won the lottery and Ryan Reynolds was giving us the check. Remember people, this whole “influencer” thing is new to us. And we still get really excited about the little things.
Kendra Scott had just launched her fall collection and so all the jewels were sparkling and brand spanking new. And naturally Alex and I went for completely opposite pieces to rock with our outfits. I chose the Didi Statement earrings in gold, the Kingston Gold Long Pendant necklace and a classic, chunky Megan statement ring.
Quick tip for all you ladies- invest in some statement jewelry pieces. It is my top tip for spicing up any outfit and taking it from “blah” to “bam.” While some of Kendra’s pieces can be pricey, I am a firm believer it is worth it to splurge every once in awhile on something you can wear all the time. You also get a 50% discount on a single item during your birthday month and low key, I look forward to that more than celebrating on my actual birthday.
Pro tip: use your boyfriend, friend, grandpa and waiter for their discount as well. Kendra let’s everyone use it! Take advantage.
Okay, now let’s fast forward to the most important part of the day and why were actually there.
Has anyone tried mochi? I felt like the biggest fish out of water when I asked what on earth these little balls of goodness were… I think it must be an LA thing. Like kombucha. And prenups. But regardless, it was delicious!
Kendra Scott had brought in My Mo Mochi ice cream for us to enjoy while we shopped and gabbed. If you’re like me and are wondering what kind of ice cream mochi is…. Lemme tell ya. My Mo Mochi are little flavored balls of ice cream that are covered with mochi (a type of rice?) on the outside and a whole bunch of powdered sugar that is an utter disaster for your lip gloss. I may have sampled one of every flavor and then gone back for seconds. I have sweet tooth and love for all things free, ok! I really recommend trying them if you like sweets. And they sell them at your local grocery stores and are relatively low cal. As long as you only consume one. Which I don’t recommend.
So where do I wrap up the story of this day? I’m sure Alex is reading this and rolling her eyes thinking about how I am word vomiting. (Except it is technically type vomiting).
I’ll just say that I had a blast hosting National Ice Cream Day with Kendra Scott and spoiling all my friends with treats and jewels. If you haven’t had a chance to check out her gorgeous new fall collection, take my word for it, it is amazing. And I am now even more convinced that every National Something Day should be celebrated to its full extent because why not? Lets make life fun.
Speaking of fun, National Tequila Day is next week and I think I should invest in a margarita machine to commemorate…. ALEX CLEAR SOME ROOM IN THE LIVING ROOM.
Until next time,
