I go through a lot of fashion phases. As we all do! Ah, the beauty of ever-changing trends. In middle school, I had this obsession with skater brands like Fox and Zumiez, (cue Avril Lavigne’s “Sk8er Boi” and me punching myself while asking whyyyyy).
DEAR GOD MOM WHY DID YOU LET ME OUTSIDE OF THE HOUSE.
….She also let me wear a Spongebob shirt every day of elementary school. I was apparently a weirdo without parents to tell them that they were weird.
In high school, I had gel scrunched hair, straightened bangs and a problem with over accessorizing. These are bad trends from 10 years ago and I am not sure where I am going with this but… trends. You get the picture.
Well this summer has been a fun one when it comes to fashion. Yes, I am frequently stalking Instagram and the magazines while checking out at Ralph’s to stay updated on what is in. I’m that girl.
From belted swimsuits, to bike shorts, to those cute little straw bags that every blogger and their grandma has… I’ve been a big fan of the summer style we have been seein’ the past couple of months.
But I do have a single obsession that I am so incredibly happy became popular this summer. And that is…
HIGH. WAISTED. SWIMSUITS.
We all love high-waisted shorts because they’re flattering, they hide your food baby and they’re beyond comfortable. So why has it taken this long to make high-waisted bikinis a thing? Yo. These are the questions that haunt me.
I will admit, I was skeptical about trying this new look. I usually wear rather uh… skimpy bottoms (sorry ma) because I always had an irrational fear of having what I call “grandma butt” in my bikinis. AKA if they cover my grandma’s butt, I feel that I should not be in them. Then I saw a couple of my fav bloggers break out their high-waisted bikini bottoms and I thought NO WAY. I will look like I am wearing a full-blown diaper in those.
I know I am not the only one who thought that.
But the more I saw it on the ‘gram, the more I wanted to see what all the rage was. Of course, I didn’t want to break the bank so I went to my favorite fast shipping, free returns, super cheap site… THE ONE AND ONLY AMAZON. From there, I found a cute, classic red bikini with high-waisted bottoms and decided to take a chance.
I’m linking the suit here. Plus, it comes in so many colors. I may have just ordered two more…
Andddddddd the verdict is in. I loved the fit! It hit my strangely muscular stomach in just the right spot to cinch in my waist and make me not look like rectangular block of wood. And usually with a higher waist, comes a higher cut on the hips… which only elongates your legs! Whether you’re curvy, athletic, slender or petite, I feel like this style is a win for all.
*Cue DJ Khalid’s ALL I DO IS WIN, WIN, WIN, NO MATTA WHAT* I hope that is stuck in your head now. I am so diabolical.
Note: these style of swim bottoms come in a million different cuts and styles so test out what works best for you! I prefer a higher waist and cheekier coverage. Show off the peach you squatted so hard for, am I right?
Oh, and my main reason for truly loving this summer trend. You can eat. In a bikini. And hide it all! No more worrying about your itsy, bitsy, teeny, tiny, yellow polka-dot bikini not being able to hide the post taco, faux baby bump. GIVE ME ALL THE TACOS.
…This is also probably only something I think about and you’re now reading this questioning my sanity. In that case, just read above about what I said about high-waisted bottoms being flattering on all body types.
Some sites I have found cute high-waisted options on are Revolve, Pac Sun, Kaohs, Urban Outfitters, Missguided and even Target! (See photos above for links to shop). Or you can go the easy route and order this cute red bikini from Amazon. I was pleasantly surprised by the fit and quality! *Sigh* Amazon, you never disappoint.
There’s still a month of summer left, gal pals. It’s not too late to hop on the high-waisted swimsuit train! And if you’re from SoCal and summer never really ends, well… do yourself a favor and just order one right now.
I’ll keep you guys posted on my next trend obsession because I have a feeling I will be stalking Kim K on Instagram, (yes, I am a closet Kardashian fan. Hate all you want), fall in love with her outfit and be doing another summer style blog post. Damn Kardashian’s being so ahead of the game…
Until next time.
