Morgan here.
Since moving to Los Angeles, we have quickly discovered that everything and anything is a photo op. In order to have an poppin’ IG feed, it’s all about the angles, backdrop and perfectly candid “I’m laughing in the distance but nothing is actually funny so I’m making it super awkward for my friend taking this photo” face. When we discovered a legitimate SELFIE museum called Happy Place in Los Angeles last year, of course The Willett sisters had to be the first in line for tickets. We’re talking rooms of giant shoes, gumball walls, floor to ceiling flowers… every Millennials dream.
So we went.
But this was when we were clueless little LA infants. Keep in mind we didn’t know what to expect or that there would be a zillion people in line, all ready to throw some elbows in order to sit in a bathtub full of rubber duckies. To summarize our first experience… we were at the end of the museum and Morgan was the most excited to stand in this giant bubble with confetti swirling all around (Let’s just invision how cute this would be for a photo). We step in the giant bubble, the museum presses a giant red button…. And the confetti began. Of course, we naturally spent 30 solid seconds arguing over who was taking the photo and who was going to pose first. By the time Morgan won the argument (anyone surprised) and flipped her hair back to strike a over dramatic pose… the wind stopped and the lady was ushering us out of the glorious bubble. Our selfie time was up. TRAGIC.
Fast forward to our NEXT time at Happy Place. This time a little different and a whole lot better.
I’m going to start by saying we never expected to ever call ourselves influencers. What does that even mean? Trust me, we still are trying to figure it out and our parents think we are nuts for constantly videotaping ourselves talking on instagram or promoting various products. As Father Willett always says… you guys are the reason social media is ruining society. But hey, we are just giving the people what they want!!!
AKA shopping a lot, finding fun products, doing cool things and posting about it.
So speaking on influencers and our Instagram obsessed society… when the jewelry brand Kendra Scott reached out to me about an influencer event with Kendra Scott and Happy Place Museum, I was more excited that when I graduated college.
Let’s rewind a bit and talk about Kendra Scott. It’s a jewelry brand that originated in Austin, Texas so I feel very trendy by saying that I knew about this company before alllll you people did. Seriously, I got a pair of her turquoise Danielle earrings as a high school graduation gift- and I have been hooked ever since. P.S. – I still have those earrings and wear them all the time. Her stuff really is timeless!
Back to the future.
Alex and I were going to this influencer event and here’s all you need to know…
It was a PRIVATE event. With lots of cute jewelry, Unlimited selfie taking. And a fun little brunch.
Pinch me, I am still dreaming.
The day of the event started with me of course, not knowing what to wear. It seems like Alex can pick something in about 2 seconds and it takes me 2 days to decide. I ended up going with the cutest little BB Dakota pantsuit and heels that were so high the wind could blow and I would topple over. It’s fine, fashion first?
We get to the Happy Place Museum and were instantly blinded by the neon yellow walls of Instagram greatness. We also were the very first people there and if you know us…. leave us alone in a room for too long and arguments WILL happen. Luckily, no headlocks happened because we got distracted by a giant inflatable duck we absolutely had to take selfies with and then we were greeted by the cutest Kendra Scott employee carrying a massive tray of her summer jewels.
Pause. Just imagine a tray full of tassels, bright colors and a whole lot of bling. Oh yes, it was great.
I went for the Kristen Gold Statement Earrings in Red Mother of Pearl and without knowing what I picked, Alex got the Betsy Gold Long Pendant Necklace in… of course, Red Mother of Pearl. Sister telepathy is a real thing, y’all.
After we adorned ourselves like the queens we are (ha, kidding), we joined the other cute influencers to begin our selfie adventure. To name a few of the gal pals with us,
Landon Clements.
Cinta Laura Kiehl.
Michelle Kuta Zuzek.
And Kristina from The Bachelor.
Not the fan girl, but our mom is the WORLD’S biggest Bachelor fan so of course, Alex and I were awkwardly nudging each other when Kristina walked in. How do we tell her that our family is psycho obsessed with the show she was on and we watched her for weeks while vegging out on the couch eating frozen pizza. Okay, we didn’t. We just politely said hello. And analyzed her outfit from afar. It was cute- all those Bachelor girls seem to have rockin’ closets. Someone please explain this phenomenon.
Moving on to the main attraction. The photo ops.
My personal favorite room is what I like to call “The Valentine Room” AKA, it is a room full of floor to ceiling kissy lips, a lip couch (that I totally want in my living room except Alex would murder me), and a giant mirrored XOXO.
If you know me, you know my go to pose is blowing a kiss. Alex’s is a peace sign. How are two people more opposite?
*Disclaimer- I found a rare photo of Alex not in her natural peace sign state of mind. Miracles do exist, people.*
After going to each room, we got to the end of the museum which include a ginormous pot of gold you can jump into. The kind museum worker looked at our group and asked if anyone wanted to jump in. We all kind of nervously giggled, because let’s be real… no one wanted to mess up their hair. I was also in eight inch stilettos and couldn’t afford breaking both of my ankles just for a photo, so I quite literally sprinted (hobbled) in the opposite direction of the pot of gold.
Past the pot of gold, was the moment we all were waiting for.
THE BUBBLE OF CONFETTI.
Yes, the place Alex and I had tragically screwed up the first time we came to the museum. But this go around we were prepared and luckily, had a sweet little hookup with Kendra Scott and they let us stay in there as long as we wanted.
I would like this to be framed at my wedding.
A day full of taking photos can be exhausting, let me tell you. (Do you want to punch me yet?) And we were all greeted with the cutest little lunch get up. Rainbow popcorn, flower arrangements and grilled cheeses. But not just any grilled cheese…. INSTAGRAMMABLE, RAINBOW GRILLED CHEESES. It was my carb loving dream come true. Alex politely ate only half of hers. I ate all of mine in a matter of 5 minutes. Self control has never been my thing.
Basically, it was the best day ever.
Moral of this blog post. If you are in Los Angeles, Happy Place is must-see. Kendra Scott is a saint, queen goddess and forever my favorite jewelry line. The word “influencer” is still confusing to us but we are enjoying the lifestyle and ready to take keep influencing all you people who will allow us too.
That’s all for now. Stay saucy.
